Naveen Patnaik welcomed former IAS officer Sujata Rout Karthikeyan to BJD, saying her experience will help strengthen women-focused initiatives.

Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik on Thursday formally welcomed former IAS officer Sujata Rout Karthikeyan into the party, noting that her vast administrative background, especially in women’s welfare, would help strengthen the party’s outreach and service initiatives. Speaking to the media, Patnaik said Karthikeyan had joined the BJD as a primary member and expressed confidence that she would play an important role in advancing causes related to women’s empowerment and public welfare.

“Sujata Rout Karthikeyan, a former IAS officer with considerable administrative experience, particularly in managing women-related affairs in the state, has joined the party as a regular member. I am confident that her experience will help her contribute meaningfully to public service, especially for women, as she begins this new journey,” he said. Patnaik also reiterated his leadership position within the party ahead of upcoming elections.

After joining the BJD, Sujata Rout Karthikeyan thanked the party leadership and said she was eager to continue serving the people of Odisha under Naveen Patnaik’s guidance. She recalled her 24-year tenure in the civil services and said she felt privileged to have worked under his leadership, adding that her entry into politics was a continuation of her commitment to the state’s development.

“I was fortunate to serve the people of Odisha under Naveen Patnaik’s leadership for the past 24 years. I feel blessed to once again get the opportunity to work for the state under his guidance,” she said. She further added, “With the blessings of Lord Jagannath and the people of Odisha, I will continue to work for the welfare and development of the state with full dedication.” During the induction event, Karthikeyan was also seen seeking blessings from Patnaik as she began her new political journey.
