Narendra Modi gave a lighthearted twist to the viral “Melody moment” by presenting a pack of Melody toffees to Giorgia Meloni during his visit to Rome. The gesture quickly drew attention online, with Meloni later thanking Modi on X and sharing the cheerful exchange that echoed a popular internet trend celebrating their friendly chemistry.

PM Modi met Meloni over dinner shortly after arriving in Rome on Tuesday, which marked the final stop of his five-nation diplomatic tour. Following the dinner, the two leaders visited the historic Colosseum, where they held in-depth conversations covering a wide range of global and bilateral issues. The visit reflected the continuing momentum in India-Italy relations.

In a post on X, Modi shared that he was pleased to meet Meloni upon landing in Rome and described their dinner meeting and Colosseum visit as meaningful opportunities to exchange perspectives. He added that he looked forward to further discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation and friendship between India and Italy.

Meloni, welcoming Modi to Rome, posted a picture with him on X saying, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!” Her post highlighted the warmth of their interaction and the positive tone of the meeting. Earlier, she also shared a photo of the leaders together at the Colosseum, further emphasizing their cordial rapport. During the visit, Modi also appreciated the work of Italian artist Giampaolo Tomassetti, who presented him with a painting of Varanasi (Kashi). The artwork symbolized a cultural bridge between India and Italy. Modi noted Tomassetti’s decades-long dedication to Indian heritage, including his illustrations of Vedic literature and extensive paintings inspired by the Mahabharata.

The visit took place amid growing momentum in bilateral relations, with both countries advancing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029. This framework strengthens cooperation in trade, investment, defence, clean energy, innovation, science and technology, and cultural exchange, reflecting a deepening partnership between India and Italy.
