The Indian film industry is mourning following veteran actor Mumtaz’s emotional tribute to legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, whose reported passing at the age of 92 on April 12 has left a deep impact on music and cinema. Sharing her feelings on Instagram, Mumtaz expressed a profound sense of loss and reflected on the strong bond between an actor’s performance and the voice that brings it to life. She also posted a nostalgic video of herself dancing to the classic song “Koi Sehri Babu” from the 1973 film Loafer, originally sung by Bhosle and picturized on her during her peak years, with Asha Bhosle also seen enjoying the moment.

In her message, she called Bhosle the “soul” behind many of her unforgettable performances, crediting her voice for adding emotion, charm, and life that words cannot fully describe, and describing their collaboration as a true blessing. Their partnership produced several evergreen hits such as “Duniya Mein Logon Ko,” the romantic “Le Jayenge Le Jayenge,” and the energetic “Motiyon Ki Ladi Hoon Main,” which continue to remain popular across generations.

Tributes have poured in from across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Bhosle as one of India’s most iconic and versatile voices, praising her immense cultural contribution. Political leaders including Uddhav Thackeray and Supriya Sule, along with actor Riteish Deshmukh, also paid their respects in Mumbai.

Her mortal remains, wrapped in the national flag, were kept for public homage, with final rites scheduled at Shivaji Park with full state honors. Asha Bhosle’s extraordinary eight-decade-long career redefined playback singing in India, spanning classical, ghazals, cabaret, and modern music, cementing her legacy as a once-in-a-generation talent.
