More than 1,000 people were reportedly detained across Delhi ahead of a planned protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations concerning the revision of electoral rolls. Delhi Police carried out preventive detentions in several parts of the capital, including southeast Delhi, east Delhi and northeast Delhi, as security was tightened ahead of the proposed demonstration. Police personnel were also deployed at key transport hubs and locations leading towards central Delhi to prevent large groups from assembling.

The protest was reportedly organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which has raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demanded the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. According to reports, more than 250 people were detained in southeast Delhi, including areas around Shaheen Bagh and Jamia Nagar. Police also monitored railway stations, bus terminals and other sensitive locations as people attempted to reach the protest venue.

Authorities had denied permission for the proposed demonstration, citing procedural concerns and potential law-and-order issues. Restrictions were also imposed in parts of the New Delhi district, while barricades and checkpoints were established to regulate movement around Jantar Mantar and nearby areas.

The planned protest comes amid a wider political debate over the electoral roll revision process. Critics have raised concerns about the possibility of eligible voters being excluded from voter lists, while electoral roll revisions are intended to improve the accuracy of registration records. The allegations surrounding the process remain contested, and their validity depends on evidence and official records. The Election Commission's role in maintaining accurate voter lists has become a key issue in the political dispute.

The detentions have also renewed questions about the balance between maintaining public order and protecting the right to peaceful protest. While authorities can impose lawful restrictions for security reasons, large-scale preventive action can prompt scrutiny over the grounds for detention and the treatment of those taken into custody.

Police arrangements remained focused on preventing unauthorised gatherings and managing traffic in central Delhi. Commuters travelling through areas near Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place could face diversions or delays because of the security measures. The latest developments are likely to intensify the political debate over electoral transparency, voter registration and accountability within India's election administration. Further clarification from Delhi Police, the protest organisers and the Election Commission would help establish the full details of the detentions and the status of the planned demonstration.
