India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in New Delhi to discuss bilateral relations and global developments. Posting on X, Jaishankar described the meeting as an opportunity for an open dialogue on strengthening ties and cooperation. The discussions spanned multiple areas, including economic collaboration, technology, defence, mining, people-to-people exchanges, and multilateral engagement. Jaishankar also appreciated Poland’s support for closer India-EU relations.

Welcoming Sikorski and his delegation, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of sustained dialogue amid global uncertainty. He noted that while India and Poland have traditionally enjoyed friendly relations, recent years have seen growing political engagement and expanded economic and cultural exchanges. He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Poland in August 2024, which elevated bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.

The meeting also reviewed the Action Plan 2024-28, aimed at realizing the full potential of the strategic partnership. Areas of focus included trade and investment, defence and security, clean technologies, and digital innovation. Jaishankar emphasized Poland’s significance as one of India’s largest trading partners in Central Europe, with bilateral trade reaching USD 7 billion and Indian investments exceeding USD 3 billion, creating jobs in Poland. Cultural and educational exchanges were also highlighted, including historical links such as the Maharaja legacy and ongoing youth exchange programs. Jaishankar noted the popularity of Indology and yoga in Poland as examples of people-to-people cooperation.

On geopolitical issues, both sides exchanged perspectives on regional and global developments, including developments in their respective neighbourhoods. Jaishankar reiterated India’s concerns over selective targeting in the Ukraine conflict and stressed the need for Poland to maintain zero tolerance for cross-border terrorism.

Sikorski thanked India for the invitation and shared his delight at attending the Jaipur Literature Festival. He emphasized the importance of exploring new avenues of cooperation, noting that both countries are dynamic players in their regions. Sikorski also agreed with Jaishankar on countering terrorism and expressed concern over unfair trade practices and potential global trade disruptions.

Noting India’s expanding diplomatic presence in Europe, Sikorski welcomed the outreach as a signal of stronger engagement with the European Union and expressed hope for a future visit by the Polish Prime Minister to India. He concluded by expressing anticipation for continued exchanges between the two nations.
