J&K: Two Killed, Five Injured in Minibus Accident on Reasi-Bakal Road

At least two people were killed and five others injured after a passenger minibus met with an accident on the Reasi-Bakal road near the Batalgala Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Monday. Following the accident, the injured passengers were rushed to District Hospital Reasi for immediate medical attention. Hospital officials said two of the injured were in critical condition and were referred to a higher medical centre for specialised treatment after receiving initial care. The remaining three injured passengers, who suffered comparatively minor injuries, are being treated at the district hospital.

Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Reasi, Dr Karamvir Singh, confirmed the casualties and said seven people were brought to the hospital following the crash. “Seven people were brought here. Two were brought dead, two were referred, while the remaining three, who suffered minor injuries, are being treated here,” Dr Singh said. The accident has once again highlighted the risks faced by passengers travelling on hilly roads in the Union Territory, where sharp turns, narrow stretches and challenging road conditions can increase the chances of serious crashes.

Authorities are expected to ascertain the circumstances that led to the minibus accident. Further details regarding the identities of those killed and injured were not immediately available. The incident comes shortly after another road accident involving security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir. On August 18, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bunker vehicle overturned after colliding with a truck, officials said.

Some CRPF personnel travelling in the vehicle reportedly suffered minor injuries. They were subsequently taken to the 163 Battalion CRPF camp in Qazigund, where they received medical treatment. The latest accident has renewed concerns over road safety in the region, particularly on routes passing through mountainous and difficult terrain. Local authorities and transport agencies routinely face challenges in maintaining safe movement on such roads, especially where traffic and weather conditions can change quickly.
