India's August GST Collection Surges 14.8 percent Year-on-Year to Rs 1.99 Lakh Crore

India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue rose 14.8 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,99,853 crore in August 2026, compared with Rs 1,74,116 crore collected during the same month last year, according to provisional government data. After adjusting for refunds, net GST revenue stood at Rs 1,68,057 crore in August, registering an 8.3 per cent increase from Rs 1,55,181 crore recorded in August 2025. On a cumulative basis, net GST collections have increased 9 per cent to Rs 8,89,523 crore, compared with Rs 8,15,939 crore in the corresponding period a year earlier.

Gross domestic GST revenue grew 9.3 per cent to Rs 1,37,249 crore in August 2026, up from Rs 1,25,570 crore in August last year. The collection comprised Rs 38,413 crore in Central GST, Rs 46,316 crore in State GST and Rs 52,520 crore in Integrated GST. Revenue from imports witnessed stronger growth, with gross import GST collections rising 29 per cent to Rs 62,604 crore from Rs 48,546 crore a year earlier. On a cumulative basis, import-related revenue has climbed 27.3 per cent to Rs 3,06,387 crore, compared with Rs 2,40,596 crore in the previous year.

Overall gross GST revenue for August stood at Rs 1,99,853 crore, taking cumulative collections to Rs 10,42,757 crore, an increase of 11 per cent over the corresponding period last year. GST refunds also increased substantially during the month, rising 67.9 per cent to Rs 31,795 crore. Domestic refunds grew 72.6 per cent to Rs 18,490 crore, while export refunds processed through ICEGATE increased 61.8 per cent to Rs 13,305 crore.

Following refunds, net domestic GST revenue grew 3.4 per cent to Rs 1,18,759 crore, while net customs revenue increased 22.3 per cent to Rs 49,299 crore. The 57th meeting of the GST Council is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on September 12, 2026. As per an office memorandum issued by the GST Council Secretariat, the meeting will begin at 11 am on Saturday. An officers' meeting is scheduled for September 11 at 11 am ahead of the Council's session.
