India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for June 11 as Delhi may experience some relief from the ongoing heatwave.

Strong winds, heavy lightning, and brief spells of rain swept through Delhi-NCR on Tuesday evening, offering limited relief from the intense heatwave and soaring temperatures affecting the region. Palam recorded the strongest wind gusts at 111 kmph, while the Pusa area witnessed maximum wind speeds of 48 kmph during the evening. The sudden weather shift came after several days of persistent heatwave conditions across Delhi-NCR.
According to India Meteorological Department, the national capital is likely to witness partly cloudy skies on Wednesday, with chances of thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas. Despite this, temperatures are expected to remain high, with the maximum around 44°C and the minimum close to 30°C. The weather department also noted that maximum temperatures across North India may rise by 2–4°C until June 11, followed by a gradual drop of 3–5°C afterward.
Delhi may soon get relief from heat: Although thunderstorm activity is possible, Delhi is expected to remain hot on Wednesday, with daytime temperatures hovering near 44°C. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Thursday, predicting rain along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. A gradual fall in temperatures by 3–5°C is also expected after that.
Monsoon progresses further: Even as North India continues to battle extreme heat, the southwest monsoon has advanced further across the country. The IMD stated that the monsoon has now covered the remaining northeastern states, the entire Sikkim region, and parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Conditions are favourable for further advancement into parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and central India in the coming days.
Heavy rainfall likely in South India and Northeast: Widespread rainfall activity is expected to continue across the Northeast, with very heavy rain forecast in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Active monsoon conditions are also expected across southern India, with heavy rainfall predicted in Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Telangana, and parts of Tamil Nadu. Isolated areas in Kerala and Karnataka may also witness very heavy rainfall.
