Google has begun rolling out the stable version of its Gemini 2.0 Flash AI model on both the Gemini app for smartphones and the web version. This marks the debut of the first stable release of the second-generation Gemini model, which can now be selected by some users in the Gemini AI model picker. Google refers to it as a model designed for "everyday tasks."
After introducing Gemini 2.0 in December, Google had initially offered an experimental version of the Gemini 2.0 Flash model for testing. The experimental model came with a clear disclaimer that it was still under development and "might not work as expected."
What’s new in Gemini 2.0 Flash: Google explained in a blog update that the stable Gemini 2.0 Flash model provides faster response times and improved performance across various key benchmarks. It’s now better equipped to help with tasks like brainstorming, learning, and writing. Gemini Advanced subscribers also gain access to a massive 1 million token context window, which supports up to 1,500 pages of file uploads. Additionally, paid-tier users can now leverage the new Gemini 2.0 Flash for custom Gems. As of now, the Flash model is available on the web version of Gemini, but the mobile app (for both Android and iOS) still features the experimental model. A wider rollout of the new model on mobile is expected soon.
Imagen 3 in Gemini: In addition to the Gemini 2.0 Flash update, Google has also enhanced its image generation features with the introduction of Imagen 3. Announced last year at Google I/O, Imagen 3 promises to deliver more photorealistic images, improved ability to follow instructions, and reduced visual artifacts, further advancing Gemini's capabilities in image creation.
