Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi stated on Tuesday that Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the horrific 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, represents the finest demonstration of tri-service coordination under clear political direction. Speaking at the annual press conference in the capital, he emphasized that the armed forces were granted complete operational freedom to act or respond during the mission.

He confirmed that the operation is still underway and warned that any future provocation would be met with a firm and decisive response. General Dwivedi also acknowledged the crucial contribution of national stakeholders, including the CAPFs, intelligence agencies, civic authorities, state administrations, and ministries such as Home Affairs and Railways.

The Army Chief explained that Operation Sindoor fundamentally reshaped strategic calculations by striking deep inside enemy networks, dismantling terrorist infrastructure, and challenging long-standing nuclear posturing. He said that after the Pahalgam attack, a firm decision was taken at the highest level to respond decisively. The operation was carefully planned and executed, beginning with a 22-minute strike on May 7, followed by coordinated actions over 88 hours until May 10. During this period, the Army successfully neutralized seven of the nine designated targets and played a key role in managing a measured response to Pakistani actions.

Highlighting the rise in global armed conflicts, General Dwivedi noted that preparedness is essential for national survival. He said that Operation Sindoor showcased India’s military readiness, precision, and strategic resolve in dealing with cross-border terrorism. Finally, he expressed satisfaction with the Indian Army’s progress in 2025, citing advances achieved through the initiatives of Jointness, Atmanirbharta, and Innovation (JAI). He said these reforms, inspired by the Prime Minister’s call for transformation and the Defence Minister’s reform agenda, have positioned the Army strongly for the future.
