Ex-UK PM Rishi Sunak Meets PM Modi and FM Sitharaman in Delhi

Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak visited India on Tuesday and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by his family. During their discussions, they covered a wide range of topics concerning bilateral relations. Following their meeting, PM Modi expressed his admiration for Sunak, calling him a "great friend of India" and highlighting his commitment to strengthening ties between India and the UK. Sharing his thoughts on X, Modi wrote, "It was a pleasure to meet former UK PM Rishi Sunak and his family! We had a wonderful conversation on many subjects. Mr. Sunak is deeply committed to fostering stronger India-UK relations."
Earlier in the day, Sunak also held talks with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Their discussions focused on exploring new avenues for enhancing financial cooperation between India and the UK, with an emphasis on market-based strategies to boost economic growth. The Finance Ministry shared details of their meeting on X, stating, "Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. @nsitharaman met with Mr. @RishiSunak, United Kingdom's ex-PM and Member of Parliament, in New Delhi, today."
During the discussion, Sitharaman stressed the importance of leveraging the Commonwealth to bring key issues of mutual interest to the G7 agenda, ensuring that the Global South benefits from economic policies and international financial decisions. The talks underscored a shared commitment to deeper collaboration in economic and financial domains, aiming for sustained growth and cooperation.
Sunak’s visit comes at a crucial time for India-UK relations, as both nations seek to enhance trade, investment, and strategic partnerships. His engagements with key Indian leaders reflect his continued interest in fostering strong diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries, ensuring long-term benefits for both economies.
