The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is conducting a week-long campaign to promote the safe use of lifts and escalators across its network. Currently, the Delhi Metro operates and maintains 965 lifts, 1,297 escalators, and 42 travelators. According to a press release, the Kashmere Gate Metro station has the highest number of escalators in the world at a single metro station, with 53 in total.

This initiative, held as part of Safety Awareness Week for lifts and escalators from April 7 to 13, is unique, as Delhi Metro is the only metro system in India running such a campaign for passenger benefit. During this period, scout and guide volunteers, along with DMRC staff, are stationed near lifts and escalators at selected stations, using placards to educate passengers about safe usage.

Street plays are being organized at busy stations to highlight the importance of safety, and informational leaflets are being distributed with key guidelines. The campaign focuses on raising awareness about proper usage, preventive measures, and best practices to avoid accidents. Special emphasis is placed on accessibility, ensuring elderly passengers and those with disabilities receive appropriate guidance and assistance. While DMRC prioritizes the smooth functioning of lifts, escalators, and travelators, some accidents still occur due to passengers not following safety precautions. This campaign has therefore been introduced to address such issues and encourage safer behavior.
