Delhi High Court granted interim bail to a practising lawyer accused of running a ₹100 crore Ponzi scheme involving multiple fraud cases across North India. The order was passed by Justice Manoj Jain on April 23, 2026, during the hearing of the accused’s bail plea. The lawyer is currently in judicial custody in a case filed by the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing.

A member of the Shahdara Bar Association who previously practised at Karkardooma Courts, the accused faces several FIRs in cities such as Dehradun, Yamuna Nagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, and Delhi. He is alleged to have defrauded investors of around ₹100 crore by luring them with promises of high returns through stock market investments. The case includes charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for cheating, criminal breach of trust, and conspiracy, along with violations of the Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Act, 2019.

Representing the accused, advocate Ujwal Ghai argued that his client had already secured default bail in three cases due to delays in filing charge sheets and had also obtained regular bail in another matter from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He pointed out that the accused remains in custody only in the current EOW case.

The defence further appealed for a humanitarian consideration, stating that the accused needed to arrange funds for his children’s school admissions, which could be affected if bail was denied. Opposing the plea, the State argued that the children’s mother, who is also a co-accused and currently on bail, could handle the admission process, and the presence of both parents was not essential.

The court observed that the accused’s presence might still be necessary for arranging finances. Justice Jain noted that denying interim bail could negatively impact the children’s education. Taking all circumstances into account, the High Court granted interim bail for two weeks from the date of release, subject to the accused furnishing a personal bond and one local surety of an equivalent amount to the satisfaction of the trial court.
