With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) set to hold its Delhi legislators' meeting on Wednesday, party leaders have voiced their trust in the leadership’s ability to select a suitable Chief Minister. The crucial meeting is scheduled for today, during which the Delhi CM and other cabinet ministers will be finalized. The oath-taking ceremony is set to take place tomorrow (February 20) at 4 PM. According to a senior party source quoted by ANI, the grand ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states, NDA leaders, Union Ministers, and other key figures.
Ahead of the meeting, BJP MLA-elect Mohan Singh Bisht addressed speculation about his potential role as the Speaker of the new assembly. "The party will make the decision. One thing is certain—the Chief Minister will be a BJP leader. If the responsibility falls on me, I will take it forward accordingly," he told ANI. Speaking about the Speaker's role, he added, "If I am chosen, my priority will be to ensure the smooth functioning of the House and to bring key issues concerning Delhi to the forefront."
Meanwhile, BJP MLA-elect Rekha Gupta expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming events, stating, "This evening, the BJP legislature party will meet. Tomorrow, Delhi will witness a grand oath-taking ceremony. After 27 years, the vision of 'Ram Rajya' will take oath, and the people of Delhi will celebrate it with great joy." Responding to criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over the delay in announcing the CM candidate, BJP MP Yogender Chandolia dismissed the concerns. He took a jab at AAP, saying, "This isn’t about a wedding procession or a marriage pavilion. The BJP’s central leadership will decide after thorough discussions. AAP should focus on naming their Leader of Opposition—will it be Gopal Rai or Atishi?"
His remarks come in response to AAP leader Gopal Rai’s comments, where he likened the BJP’s approach to organizing a wedding without announcing the groom. "In this country, different parties have formed governments across states, but for the first time, we are seeing a situation where the wedding procession is ready, the stage is set, yet no one knows who the groom is," Rai remarked. He further questioned whether the BJP was struggling to finalize a name or deliberately keeping its decision under wraps for a larger political maneuver.
