The cause of death of Ethan Browne, son of renowned singer-songwriter Jackson Browne, has been officially confirmed nearly two months after his passing. Ethan died on November 25 at the age of 52. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner stated that his death was caused by the combined effects of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and lidocaine, and has been ruled accidental, according to a report by PEOPLE.

Jackson Browne had announced his son’s death the following day through an Instagram post, expressing deep sorrow and requesting privacy for the family during their time of grief. He shared that Ethan was found unresponsive at his home on the morning of November 25, with no further details provided at that time.

Ethan was the only child of Jackson Browne and Phyllis Major, whom Browne married in 1975. Major died by suicide in March 1976, when Ethan was still very young. Over the years, the close bond between father and son was often highlighted, most memorably with their appearance on the cover of Rolling Stone in 1974, showing Browne holding his newborn son in a tender moment that many fans now view with renewed emotion.

Ethan later built a career in acting and modeling, appearing in the 2004 film Raising Helen starring Kate Hudson and working with leading designers, including Isaac Mizrahi, as noted in producer Mark Ronson’s memoir Night People. Jackson Browne is also the father of another son, Ryan Browne, 43, from his previous marriage to Lynne Sweeney.
