BJP Workers Call For Ranchi Bandh Today After Killing Of Senior Leader Anil Mahto Tiger

BJP leader Anil Tiger was shot dead in broad daylight at Kanke Chowk in Ranchi on Wednesday. The former Zila Parishad member was attacked by unidentified assailants who fled the scene immediately after the attack. Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the spot and rushed him to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), where doctors pronounced him dead.
Following the incident, law enforcement launched an operation to track down the culprits. One of the accused was arrested after an encounter with the police. According to the Ranchi SSP, the suspect was identified and pursued, but when confronted, he opened fire on the police team. In retaliation, officers shot him in the thigh before arresting him. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
The murder has sparked a strong political outcry, with BJP leaders and workers staging protests against the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led government. Many political figures have criticized Chief Minister Hemant Soren, blaming his administration for the worsening law and order situation in the state. BJP MLA Navin Jaiswal accused the government of failing to curb rising crime, alleging that officials were preoccupied with land and coal-related corruption instead of public safety. He demanded that Hemant Soren resign from his position.
Union Minister Sanjay Seth also condemned the state government, claiming that criminals were operating with impunity. He stated that law and order in Jharkhand had collapsed and compared the situation to Uttar Pradesh, where he said strict governance had ensured safety for citizens. He called for the adoption of the "Yogi model" to control crime in the state. AJSU President Sudesh Mahto also expressed concern over the increasing crime rate, stating that the morale of criminals had grown under the current administration. He assured support for Anil Tiger’s family.
In response to the killing, the BJP’s Ranchi Mahanagar unit called for a citywide bandh on Thursday, March 27, from 8 AM to 5 PM, under the directive of the party leadership. In a press release, BJP workers were urged to coordinate with fellow party members and ensure a peaceful shutdown. Demonstrations were planned across key locations in Ranchi, with the support of various organizations and the general public.
