Senior BJP leader V Muraleedharan on Saturday urged the Kerala government to strictly implement the newly enacted legislation designed to curb the influx of illegal migrants into the state. Speaking to reporters, he claimed that a significant number of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh are entering Kerala under the guise of guest workers and emphasized the need for strict enforcement of the law.

The Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, passed by the Lok Sabha on Thursday, was defended by Home Minister Amit Shah, who stated that while India welcomes those arriving for business, education, and investment, those posing security threats will face strict action. Muraleedharan further alleged that these illegal immigrants, disguised as guest workers, are involved in drug trafficking in the state. He stressed that implementing the new law is essential for ensuring the safety and peaceful lives of ordinary citizens.

Criticizing the Congress-led UDF, he described their stance on the issue as disappointing. Citing a recent incident, he alleged that when some Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in Aluva, Kochi, a friend of Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan had defended them. He also claimed that a Congress mandalam vice president was later arrested in connection with the case. Calling the new bill a vital step toward combating drug abuse and terrorism, Muraleedharan urged both the ruling CPI(M) and the opposition Congress not to weaken Kerala's efforts against the drug menace.

Additionally, he accused the UDF of attempting to shield Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his daughter in an illegal transaction case. Referring to a recent Kerala High Court verdict, he claimed it demonstrated the opposition’s cooperative stance in protecting Vijayan. The court had dismissed a plea by Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan seeking an investigation into alleged financial transactions between Vijayan’s daughter’s now-defunct IT firm and a private mining company.
