At least six people killed after a passenger bus plunges into a deep gorge in Almora.

A tragic accident in Uttarakhand’s Almora district has claimed multiple lives after a private passenger bus veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. The bus, traveling from Bhikiyasain to Ramnagar on the Bikhiyasain-Vinayak Motor Road, was carrying approximately 17–18 passengers when the mishap occurred on Tuesday morning. Initial reports suggest that six to seven people died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries and were immediately admitted to the Government Hospital in Bhikiyasain for treatment.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local police, reached the accident site promptly and began rescue operations to help trapped passengers. Efforts are ongoing to retrieve survivors from the wreckage and provide them with urgent medical attention. Almora SSP Devendra Pincha confirmed that rescue teams had been dispatched and acknowledged the reports of fatalities, adding that further details are being gathered.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his deep sorrow over the incident through a post on X, calling it “extremely distressing” and praying for the departed souls to rest in peace. He also extended condolences to the bereaved families and confirmed that the injured were receiving timely treatment. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to ensure smooth rescue and relief operations.
