Assam Ex-Servicemen Extend Support to Flood-Hit Families, Donate Rs 25 Lakh to CM Relief Fund

Assam’s ex-servicemen community has stepped forward to support people affected by the state’s floods by donating ₹25 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The contribution aims to strengthen ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures for flood-hit residents. Representatives of the veterans’ fraternity handed over the cheque to Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, highlighting their continued dedication to serving society even after retiring from the Armed Forces.

The donation reflects the strong spirit of responsibility and compassion among Assam’s former defence personnel, who continue to contribute to public welfare initiatives beyond their years of military service. The cheque was presented by Brigadier Polash Chowdhury, SM (Retd), Director of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam, along with Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), and Asom Baibhav Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM (Retd).

Speaking during the event, Brig Polash Chowdhury said the financial assistance represented the veterans’ ongoing commitment to standing beside the people of Assam during difficult times. He expressed hope that the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund would help deliver timely support to families severely impacted by the floods.

He also pointed out that several ex-servicemen from Assam have voluntarily joined relief activities alongside the civil administration, helping communities affected by the natural disaster. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appreciated the veterans’ generous gesture and praised their continued dedication to patriotism, compassion, and social service. He noted that such initiatives inspire others to contribute towards humanitarian causes. The ex-servicemen fraternity of Assam reiterated its commitment to supporting disaster management efforts, community welfare programmes, and other public service initiatives across the state, continuing its tradition of selfless contribution to society.
