Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday carried out a major expansion of his cabinet, with 12 MLAs sworn in as ministers in the BJP-led government’s third consecutive term in the state. The newly inducted ministers include BJP legislators Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Nilima Devi, and Sushanta Borgohain. AGP leader Keshab Mahanta, who was part of the earlier NDA government in Assam, also joined the new cabinet. Former Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary has likewise been inducted into the ministerial team.

Other MLAs who took oath as cabinet ministers are Ashok Singhal, Bimal Borah, Jayant Mallabaruah, Kaushik Rai, Krishnendu Paul, Pijush Hazarika, and Ranoj Pegu. Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to all 12 ministers in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

A day before the ceremony, Sarma had officially announced the names of the incoming ministers through a post on X. In his statement, he said the legislators would take oath as Cabinet Ministers in the Assam government on June 5 at 12:45 PM. The cabinet expansion comes after the BJP-led NDA secured a sweeping victory in the Assam Assembly elections, winning 102 out of 126 seats and returning to power for a third straight term.

Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in for a second consecutive term as Chief Minister during a grand event held at the Khanapara Veterinary College Field in Guwahati. Several senior leaders, including Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro, and Ajanta Neog, also took oath as members of the new Council of Ministers.
