Ashutosh Ranka Donated Rs 21,100 to AAP Before Joining CJP, Election Commission Filing Shows

Ashutosh Ranka, now a co-convener of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), contributed ₹21,100 to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) during the 2025-26 financial year, according to the party's contribution report filed with the Election Commission of India. Ranka's contribution was made before he took up his role in the CJP. He had earlier been associated with the AAP, and recent reports have described him as a former AAP spokesperson. However, Ranka has previously said that he was an AAP volunteer and disputed being formally appointed as a spokesperson.

The disclosure is part of AAP's latest contribution report, which records around ₹12.10 crore in donations for 2025-26. This represented a decline of about 68 per cent from the ₹38.10 crore the party reported in the previous financial year. The latest filing contains 1,202 numbered entries. Two major contributors accounted for a large share of the disclosed amount. Prudent Electoral Trust and Trident Limited each contributed ₹5 crore, together making up roughly 83 per cent of AAP's reported contributions for the year. Trident was founded by former AAP Rajya Sabha MP Rajinder Gupta, who later joined the BJP in April 2026.

The filing also records contributions from senior AAP leaders. Party chief Arvind Kejriwal made three payments of ₹10,000 each, taking his total contribution to ₹30,000 during the financial year. Former Delhi chief minister Atishi contributed ₹42,000 through 12 payments, while Punjab AAP president Aman Arora contributed ₹1.20 lakh.

Ranka's ₹21,100 contribution is notable because it was recorded before his subsequent association with the CJP. The Election Commission filing establishes the amount and the financial year of the contribution, but does not provide a reason for the payment or indicate that it was connected to his later political activities.

AAP's latest disclosure also comes against the backdrop of a significant year-on-year change in its reported contributions. The party had declared ₹11.06 crore in contributions in 2023-24 and ₹38.10 crore in 2024-25 before reporting ₹12.10 crore for 2025-26. The figures relate specifically to contributions disclosed in the party's statutory report. As noted by The Indian Express, political parties are required to provide details of contributions above ₹20,000 in these annual contribution reports, meaning the filing does not necessarily represent every rupee received by a party during the year.
