On the occasion of Army Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday praised the Indian Army, calling it a symbol of selfless service that safeguards the nation with unwavering resolve, often under the most challenging conditions. He emphasized that the nation honors their courage, discipline, and dedication.

“Our soldiers exemplify selfless service, protecting the country with steadfast commitment, even in the toughest situations. Their sense of duty inspires confidence and gratitude across the nation,” Modi said in a post on X. He also paid homage to the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. President Droupadi Murmu extended her greetings to the brave soldiers, veterans, and their families, noting that their unwavering “nation first” spirit continues to inspire every Indian.

“The Indian Army remains resolute in safeguarding the unity, sovereignty, and integrity of our nation,” Murmu wrote on X. “Our soldiers not only defend our borders but also provide vital assistance during disasters and humanitarian crises. Their commitment and selfless service set an example for all,” she added.

Army Day, observed on January 15, commemorates Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa taking over as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army in 1949, succeeding his British predecessor, General Sir F.R.R. Bucher. The day serves as a reminder of the army’s dedication, courage, and vital role in ensuring the nation’s security and welfare.
