A new coffee spot, 2050 Coffee, is set to open on January 25 at Beach Road, offering more than just great coffee. With a sleek and futuristic interior, it promises a unique experience for coffee lovers. The brand was originally founded in Kyoto by Japanese entrepreneur Yozo Otsuki, and this marks the first international location, managed by the team behind Kurasu Singapore, another specialty coffee venture by Otsuki.
The café's mission extends beyond serving coffee; it aims to address the growing concerns about the impact of climate change on coffee production. A recent study published in PLOS One highlights how climate change is expected to disrupt the conditions needed for growing coffee, with the crop among the most affected. In response, 2050 Coffee plans to foster direct relationships with farmers who use sustainable farming methods and help scale up their businesses. The café also seeks to spotlight lesser-known coffee producers, promoting a more diverse and sustainable coffee industry.
One of the standout features of 2050 Coffee is its drink-serving method. Customers can enjoy coffee and tea on tap, priced at $7.50 per drink. There are six taps in total—four dispensing filter coffee and two offering tea. After purchasing at the counter, customers are given a cup and can dispense their drink directly from the taps. The café offers a rotating seasonal selection of drinks, changing every one-and-a-half months, so customers can always expect something new. For example, the Matcha Latte is creamy, smooth, and earthy, while other options include Burundi, a light roast coffee with berry, dried fruit, and chocolate notes, and Mexico, with apple, green grapes, iced lemon tea, and poached pear flavors.
For those who prefer traditional coffee, there’s also a state-of-the-art Eversys coffee machine that uses a built-in grinder and milk dispensing arm for quicker preparation. The Premium Latte ($7) and Regular Latte ($6.50) are made using this machine, with the option to add soy or oat milk for an extra $1. Customers can also save 50 cents by bringing their own tumbler.
Location: 267 Beach Rd, #01-01, Singapore 199545.
