Telangana Labour Minister Vivek Venkatswamy on Wednesday highlighted growing concerns among gig and platform workers regarding delayed payments, poor working conditions, and lack of social security, emphasizing the need for structured dialogue among stakeholders. He noted that the state government has approved the Gig and Platform Workers Welfare Bill, 2025, underlining its commitment to worker protection and inclusive growth.

In a video posted on social media platform X, Venkatswamy said gig workers nationwide are struggling due to increasing pressure from aggregators. While they initially earned good incomes and could meet both customer and aggregator expectations, their earnings have declined over time, even as work pressure has increased. The introduction of 10-minute delivery timelines has further intensified this strain. Workers now face unstable incomes, no job security, limited healthcare access, and vulnerability in case of delivery-related accidents.

“The Telangana government has enacted the Gig Workers Act to protect their rights, including a board where workers can raise complaints if removed unfairly. We are also ensuring their health and safety. It is now up to the Central government to pressure aggregators and safeguard gig workers' interests,” Venkatswamy said.

Earlier on Wednesday, platform-based delivery workers affiliated with the Indian Federation of App-Based Transport Workers (IFAT) observed a nationwide strike, protesting low wages, unfair working conditions, and lack of social security, warning of possible service disruptions during peak hours.
