Syrian intelligence officials have successfully prevented an attack planned by the Islamic State group on a Shiite shrine in the Damascus suburb of Sayyida Zeinab. According to state media, the General Intelligence Service was able to foil the plot, arresting members of the IS cell responsible for the bombing attempt.

The state news agency SANA reported that an unnamed official from the General Intelligence Service confirmed the arrest. The official also emphasized the intelligence agency's commitment to using all available resources to prevent any efforts that could harm the Syrian people, regardless of their background or beliefs.
