Owaisi Calls for Stronger AIMIM Support Ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2027

Ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has called on party supporters to strengthen the organisation and work towards securing electoral victories in the state. He expressed confidence that AIMIM could reproduce its recent performance in Bihar in Uttar Pradesh. Speaking at the Jalsa-e-Rahmatul-lil-Alameen event in Hyderabad on the occasion of the 1501st Eid Milad-un-Nabi, Owaisi also renewed his call for independent Muslim political leadership. He questioned the level of parliamentary representation of Muslims, pointing out that a community of around 18 crore people has only 24 MPs in Parliament.

Owaisi urged supporters to back AIMIM candidates in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh polls and said the party would face criticism from its opponents but should remain focused on expanding its political presence. He argued that every community should have the opportunity to develop its own political leadership. According to Owaisi, stronger representation would contribute to strengthening Indias democracy and Constitution. He also questioned whether there was adequate political representation for issues concerning Muslims.

His latest comments come as political parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. AIMIM has previously indicated that it is willing to work with other opposition parties to challenge the BJP, but Owaisi has stressed that any alliance must provide the party with equal standing and respect. In an earlier interaction with ANI on June 15, Owaisi said AIMIM was prepared to enter into an alliance aimed at preventing the BJP from returning to power in Uttar Pradesh, provided the party received equal treatment within the proposed coalition.

AIMIM had contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh in partnership with Apna Dal (Kamerawadi). However, Owaisis latest statements have not identified any specific alliance partner, prompting speculation that the party could explore cooperation with wider opposition formations, including parties associated with the INDIA bloc.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), led by Mayawati, could also become an important factor in the alliance calculations. If the BSP chooses to contest the Uttar Pradesh elections independently, AIMIM may consider the possibility of working with it. AIMIM has already begun preparing for the state elections. Owaisi recently announced Uttar Pradesh party chief Shaukat Ali as the AIMIM candidate for the Matera Assembly constituency, a seat currently held by a Samajwadi Party MLA.
