Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi Visits Emirates Global Aluminium, Meets Industry Leaders

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday visited the Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) facility at Jebel Ali in Dubai, where he reviewed advanced aluminium production technologies and gained insights into global industrial practices, according to the Odisha government’s Department of Industries. During the visit, Majhi highlighted the technology licensing partnership between NALCO and EGA, which is expected to support the modernisation and expansion of aluminium production in Odisha. The collaboration is also aimed at encouraging low-carbon manufacturing and increasing the production of higher-value aluminium products.

The Chief Minister also discussed possibilities for EGA to participate in Odisha’s expanding downstream aluminium industry, including potential opportunities associated with the Angul Aluminium Park. The state is seeking to strengthen its aluminium value chain by encouraging investment in processing and manufacturing activities that can generate greater economic value.

Majhi also participated in an industry roundtable in Dubai with representatives of the Bureau of Middle East Recycling (BMR) Association and JSW Group. The discussions focused on metal recycling, resource efficiency, circular-economy practices and value-added manufacturing. During the interaction, the Chief Minister highlighted Odisha’s established metals and manufacturing base and invited investors to explore opportunities in metal recycling, secondary aluminium and steel, advanced material recovery and other circular-economy technologies. The discussions also examined possibilities for technology partnerships and sustainable industrial practices that could help Odisha develop a globally competitive recycling ecosystem.

The state’s investment outreach in the UAE also included an interaction with Dubai-based investment funds and members of the Indian business community. During the programme, the Government of Odisha signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Indian Business Professional Council (IBPC). Majhi invited UAE-based Indian businesses and professionals to consider investment opportunities in Odisha and emphasised the role of the Indian business community in strengthening economic and commercial ties between the UAE and the state. Odisha presented opportunities across sectors such as green energy, green hydrogen, minerals and mining, aluminium downstream industries, recycling, logistics and other emerging areas.

The MoC with IBPC is intended to strengthen Odisha’s engagement with the UAE-based Indian business network while supporting investment opportunities, business partnerships and market linkages. The agreement is expected to contribute to stronger and more sustained commercial ties between Odisha and the UAE. The Chief Minister also inaugurated an One District, One Product (ODOP) Gallery in Dubai, showcasing Odisha’s traditional handicrafts and handloom products to an international audience. The exhibition features products such as Sambalpuri sarees and Maniabandha handloom, Cuttack silver filigree, Dongria shawls, Kendujhar terracotta idols, Balasore black granite sculptures, as well as Pattachitra and palm-leaf engravings from Puri.

The gallery is intended to provide Odisha’s artisans and entrepreneurs with greater access to international markets while promoting the state’s cultural heritage. The initiative also seeks to encourage women-led entrepreneurship, strengthen local livelihoods and expand export opportunities for traditional products. Majhi’s engagements in Dubai reflect Odisha’s broader effort to attract international investment while simultaneously promoting the state’s industrial capabilities, green economy opportunities, recycling sector and traditional products on the global stage.
