Japanese Foreign Minister Emphasizes Japan and India's Shared Responsibility for Global Peace.

Japans Minister for Foreign Affairs recently highlighted the important role that Japan and India play in ensuring global peace, especially in the context of their responsibilities as influential nations in the Indo-Pacific region. This statement came during a meeting on January 20, 2025, with Indias External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Australias Foreign Ministers. The discussions focused on the shared values and strategic interests between Japan and India, reaffirming their commitment to a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP). Both countries aim to enhance regional stability and prosperity through collaboration in various areas, including defense, security, and addressing global challenges such as transnational crimes and disruptions in supply chains.
The meeting also emphasized efforts for deeper bilateral cooperation in fields like security, economy, and cultural exchanges. Notably, both ministers agreed to designate the period from April this year to March the following year as Japan India Science Technology and Innovation Exchange Year (STIY25) to strengthen collaboration in science, technology, and innovation. Discussions also covered initiatives by the Quad (Japan-Australia-India-US).
On January 19, Japans Foreign Minister, IWAYA Takeshi, held a meeting with Indias External Affairs Minister, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, during his visit to Washington DC for the Presidential Inauguration Ceremony. With Japan leading the G7 and India presiding over the G20 this year, both ministers expressed a strong desire to work closely together on international issues to promote peace and security in the region.
