India and the United States will begin the fourth edition of Exercise Tiger Triumph, a tri-service humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) exercise, on Tuesday, alongside Indias ongoing Operation Brahma to aid Myanmar after the devastating earthquake last week. The 13-day exercise, running until April 13, will take place on the Eastern Seaboard.
The goal of the exercise is to enhance interoperability between Indian and US forces, focusing on HADR operations and developing procedures for establishing a combined coordination center for smooth collaboration during crises. The Indian Navy will deploy four ships, including INS Jalashwa, INS Gharial, INS Mumbai, and INS Shakti, along with helicopters, landing crafts, and the P-8I maritime patrol aircraft. The Armys 91 Infantry Brigade and 12 Mechanized Infantry Battalion, as well as the Indian Air Force’s C-130 transport aircraft, Mi-17 helicopters, and Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT), will also participate. On the US side, Navy ships Comstock and Ralph Johnson, along with US Marine Division troops, will join the exercise.
The harbour phase will take place in Visakhapatnam until April 7, featuring training sessions, expert exchanges, sports events, and social interactions. The sea phase will then proceed off Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, focusing on maritime, amphibious, and HADR operations. A joint command center will be established at the Kakinada Naval Enclave, and medical aid will be provided through joint camps set up by Indian and US teams.
This exercise coincides with Operation Brahma, Indias relief efforts in Myanmar after the March 28 earthquake. Indian naval ships have delivered substantial aid, including 510 tonnes of relief material to date. Both the operation and the exercise emphasize India’s role as a key first responder in its neighborhood and the Indian Ocean Region.
