New Delhi: India’s first human spaceflight mission, Gaganyaan, is moving ahead as planned, with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) completing more than 8,000 ground tests as part of the mission’s preparation, ISRO Chairman V Narayanan has confirmed. The milestone reflects the extensive safety checks and technical evaluations being carried out before India sends astronauts into space.

The ISRO chief said the mission remains on track, with the organisation continuing work on the crucial stages required before the first crewed flight. The upcoming uncrewed mission will act as an important demonstration flight to test spacecraft performance, systems reliability, and safety measures before astronauts take part in the historic journey.

Gaganyaan is one of India’s most ambitious space programmes, aimed at sending Indian astronauts into low Earth orbit and bringing them safely back to Earth. The mission requires several rounds of testing because human spaceflight demands extremely high levels of precision and safety.

The 8,000-plus tests conducted by ISRO cover multiple areas, including spacecraft systems, propulsion technology, emergency escape mechanisms, and other critical components needed for a successful mission.
