Expired Food, Unhygienic Kitchens: Licences of 8 Hyderabad Eateries Suspended

A food-safety inspection drive in Hyderabad has uncovered several serious violations at restaurants and eateries, including expired food, pest infestations and inadequate kitchen hygiene. Following the inspections, the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) suspended the FSSAI licences of eight establishments and directed them to stop operations with immediate effect.

Eight enforcement teams, comprising food safety officials and police personnel, inspected 15 establishments across Hyderabads core urban areas on Thursday. During the operation, officials collected 16 food samples for testing over suspected adulteration and documented multiple violations involving expired products, contamination, pest activity and poor sanitation.

One of the major violations was reported at Pakwan Grand Restaurant in Raidurg, under the Cyberabad jurisdiction. Inspectors reportedly discovered around 1,170 kg of expired rice along with 45 kg of noodles carrying labelling deficiencies. The inspection also found spoiled eggs, signs of rodent activity and refrigerators that were not being maintained properly.

Aroma Multicuisine Restaurant in Gachibowli, operated by Acsys Hospitality LLP, was another establishment whose FSSAI licence was suspended. According to officials, the premises had significant cockroach and rodent infestations, while some food was allegedly contaminated by pests. Expired food items and the presence of cats were also reported. The restaurant was also found to have failed to maintain mandatory pest-control documentation and health records for food handlers. The other establishments facing licence suspension include Aditya Restaurant and Bar in Safilguda, Vaishnavi Darshini in Begum Bazar, Spicy Hub (Green Treat Restaurant) in Kothapet, Godavari Ghumaghumalu in Hafeezpet, Sri Krishna Family Dhaba Pure Veg in Gopanpally, and Sri Sai Mess, a unit of Babai Hotel, in Kondapur.

At Godavari Ghumaghumalu, inspectors reportedly found brinjals infested with worms, expired food products and evidence of rodents. Vaishnavi Darshini was flagged for fungal contamination and improper food storage. At Sri Krishna Family Dhaba, officials reported a heavy cockroach infestation and alleged that some food handlers were chewing gutka while working.

In a separate enforcement action, Lucky Restaurant in Pragathi Nagar, Bachupally, was ordered to shut down after allegedly operating without a valid FSSAI licence. Officials also reported extensive cockroach infestation and unhygienic conditions at the premises. Improvement notices are set to be issued to five other establishments, including Girl Friend Mandi, Eat Club Brands Box 8 and Mojo Pizza outlets, Seasons Xpress and Yummy Bee.

TG SAFE has also proposed issuing a show-cause notice to Asaa Neo Indian Kitchen in Puppalguda, with additional penalties possible depending on further proceedings. The latest inspections are part of Telanganas intensified campaign to strengthen food-safety compliance. TG SAFE said inspections and follow-up measures would continue, with establishments required to rectify identified violations before facing further inspections.
