3 Dead in 10 Days as Fresh Terror Attacks Shake Jammu and Kashmir Despite High Security Alert

Srinagar: Three people have lost their lives in two separate terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir over the past 10 days, raising fresh concerns about the security situation in the Union Territory despite an intensified counter-terrorism crackdown and heightened vigilance by security forces. The latest attack took place in south Kashmirs Kulgam district, where terrorists opened fire on migrant labourers working at a brick kiln. Two workers from Chhattisgarh sustained critical injuries and later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Security agencies have launched a massive search operation in the area to track down those responsible.

The incident came just days after terrorists targeted a police team in Anantnag district, killing Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi. The officer was deployed as part of the security arrangements for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, one of the countrys largest annual pilgrimages, which is currently under heavy security cover. The back-to-back attacks have claimed three lives within a span of 10 days, highlighting the continued threat posed by terrorist groups despite the presence of a robust security network across the region.

Officials said security forces have cordoned off the affected areas and intensified search operations. Additional checkpoints have also been established, while intelligence agencies are examining whether the two attacks are linked or were carried out by separate militant groups. The attack on migrant workers has sparked particular concern as civilians from outside Jammu and Kashmir have occasionally been targeted by terrorists in an apparent attempt to spread fear and disrupt normal economic activity. Thousands of workers from states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand travel to the Valley every year for employment in construction, agriculture and other sectors.

The incidents come at a time when Jammu and Kashmir remains under a high security alert following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, in which 26 civilians were killed. Since then, security forces have stepped up anti-terror operations, increased surveillance along infiltration routes and expanded intelligence-based operations to prevent further attacks.

Security experts say that while militant networks have weakened in recent years due to sustained operations by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and central security forces, small terrorist groups continue to exploit isolated locations and soft targets to maintain their presence and generate fear. Authorities have assured that every effort is being made to identify the attackers and prevent further incidents. Investigations are underway, and security agencies are expected to review existing deployment strategies following the latest attacks. The recent violence serves as a reminder that although significant progress has been made in counter-terrorism operations, the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir continues to require constant vigilance and coordinated intelligence efforts.
