Guwahati, Jan 15 (AHN) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday declined to comment on the proceedings underway in Singapore’s coroner’s court in connection with the death of renowned singer Zubeen Garg, asserting that political leaders must maintain restraint in matters that are sub judice.

Responding to questions from the media, CM Sarma said the investigation conducted by the Singapore Police had already been completed and a report submitted to the court in Singapore, where it is currently under judicial scrutiny.

He stressed that the legal process in Singapore and the inquiry being carried out in Assam are independent of each other, governed by separate jurisdictions and legal procedures.

“Whatever details have appeared in the media, I have also read the same. Their investigation and ours are different processes, each following its own legal framework,” the Chief Minister said, adding that it would be inappropriate for him to make any further observations on the issue at this stage.

CM Sarma cautioned that comments from political figures on sensitive matters before a court could easily be misinterpreted and may create unnecessary speculation.

“Since the matter is before the court, politicians should not interfere. We should stay away from commenting on what the court has observed,” he said.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come at a time when public attention has intensified following reports emerging from the Singapore coroner’s court regarding the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

Parallelly, the Assam Police is continuing its own probe in accordance with Indian law.

Officials have reiterated that the Assam investigation is proceeding independently and will examine all relevant aspects within its mandate.

The state government, meanwhile, has maintained that it will allow the legal process—both domestic and international—to take its course without political intervention, underscoring the importance of respecting judicial proceedings in a matter that has drawn widespread public interest.
