Vivek Agnihotri reacts to students protests: It should keep happening, it's a democracy

Mumbai, August 7 (AHN) Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri was recently spotted at the screening of a film based on spiritual guru Neem Karoli Baba, where he spoke about the importance of protests in a democracy.

Interacting with AHN, on the red carpet of the screening, Agnihotri initially was reluctant in talking about the protests at the screening of the film.

But later, he said, "It is a democracy, things happen, they have been happening for a long time. There have been thousands of protests in the last 70 years, and they keep happening. In fact they should be happening, why shouldn't they be happening?"

For the uninitiated, Vivek Agnihotri has been a part of the Hindi film industry for over two decades. He made his directorial debut with Chocolate (2005) and later helmed films such as Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, Hate Story, Buddha in a Traffic Jam and The Tashkent Files.

The filmmaker earned a lot of critical acclaim and commercial success with The Kashmir Files released in 2022, which depicted the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley. The film emerged as one of the biggest box-office successes of the year.

Vivek Agnihotri followed it up with The Vaccine War, based on India's scientific efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. He is currently gearing up for the release of The Delhi Files, the next chapter in his "Files" trilogy.

The actor, for the uninitiated, is the husband of actress Pallavi Joshi.

Talking about the protests, they were held by students demanding for accuracy and transparency in education system a specially after the NEET paper leak.

Students and protestors also demanded the then education minister Dharmendra Pradhan to resign.
