Guwahati, June 20 (AHN) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that farmer welfare remains a key pillar of the BJP-led double-engine government's developmental agenda, highlighting the state's progress in implementing the Centre's AgriStack initiative to improve access to agricultural services and benefits.
In a post on social media platform X, Sarma stated that more than 12 lakh farmers across 31 districts of Assam have been enrolled under AgriStack, a digital platform aimed at creating a comprehensive database of farmers and agricultural land holdings.
"Farmer welfare is a key pillar of our Double Engine Govt's developmental agenda. In Assam, we've enrolled 12 lakh+ farmers in 31 districts in #AgriStack, from where farmers get easier access to cheaper credit, higher-quality farm inputs and easy access to markets," the Chief Minister wrote.
According to information shared by Sarma, AgriStack serves as a unified digital infrastructure for agriculture and creates a unique Aadhaar-linked Farmer ID for every registered farmer. The platform dynamically maps farmers with their farmland plots and crop-related data, enabling more efficient delivery of government services and agricultural support.
The initiative is expected to help farmers access institutional credit at lower costs, obtain quality agricultural inputs and connect more effectively with markets.
Officials believe the digital ecosystem will also enhance transparency and streamline the implementation of various welfare schemes targeted at the farming community.
The AgriStack programme is part of the Centre's broader effort to modernise agriculture through technology-driven solutions. By integrating land records, crop information and farmer databases, the platform seeks to facilitate better planning, targeted interventions and improved service delivery.
Assam has been among the states actively implementing the initiative, with the government undertaking extensive enrolment drives across districts. The state administration has maintained that digital agriculture platforms will play a crucial role in increasing productivity, reducing inefficiencies and improving farmers' incomes.
The Chief Minister's remarks come amid ongoing efforts by both the Centre and the Assam government to strengthen the agricultural sector through digital governance, infrastructure development and direct benefit delivery mechanisms aimed at enhancing the welfare of farmers.
