Bengaluru, Dec 31 (AHN) Kannada film stars and the Bengaluru Police Commissioner on Wednesday appealed to the public to celebrate the New Year responsibly and stay away from drugs and drunk driving.
In his New Year message shared on social media, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh urged people not to drive vehicles under the influence of alcohol. In a video message, he said, “Namaskara Bengaluru. Do not indulge in drink and drive. The police department is taking strict action during New Year celebrations, as well as otherwise, against drunk driving.”
He said that in the past five days alone, more than 2,000 cases related to drunk driving had been registered. “When you celebrate, arrange for a designated driver or hire a cab service and celebrate responsibly,” he urged.
Kannada actor Shivarajkumar also appealed to the public to avoid drugs and narcotics during celebrations. “The New Year has arrived. Celebrate, but stay away from drugs and narcotics. Do not touch them. You know it is a crime. If you notice any drug-related activity, inform the police. Let us have a new beginning, stay with our families and enjoy the occasion,” he said.
Actor Gowthami Jadhav cautioned people against online scams during the festive season. “Scammers send links claiming you can send New Year wishes to family members. If you click on such links, your mobile phone can be hacked and personal and banking details may be accessed. This can lead to blackmail and misuse of information. Do not click on links received from unknown numbers, not just during New Year but at any time,” she said.
South Indian actor Ramesh Aravind called for safe celebrations and respect for women. “We do not know how 2025 will unfold, but as we prepare to welcome the New Year, let us celebrate safely. Bengaluru police have introduced safety measures, especially for women, including safety islands and help centres. Let us cooperate with the police, respect women and celebrate responsibly. If you notice any untoward incident, dial the 112 helpline,” he said.
Meanwhile, coastal Karnataka beaches have been decked up for New Year celebrations, with beach resorts organising night parties until 12.30 a.m. Authorities said all slots at beach resorts have already been booked.
In Belagavi, city police have enforced strict regulations ahead of New Year celebrations. City Police Commissioner Bhushan Gulabrao Borase said more than 1,000 police personnel, along with KSRP and CAR units and Home Guards, have been deployed across the city.
He said women’s safety has been given special priority and warned that any form of harassment will not be tolerated.
Borase added that a meeting was held with hotel, bar and resort owners on December 26, during which instructions were issued on precautionary measures. “They have been directed not to serve alcohol to minors or provide rooms to them. Orders have also been issued to mandatorily take all necessary steps to prevent fire accidents,” he said.
