Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra pay tribute to victims of Partition

New Delhi, Aug 13 (AHN) Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra paid tribute to the struggle, courage and sacrifices of the victims of Partition at a special event organised on Thursday.

The special programme was organised at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre as part of the events around the 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day', an official statement said.

The event sought to remember the pain, displacement and stories of separation associated with the Partition of India in 1947.

Titled "Partition Horrors – Remembrance Day", the special programme brought together music, theatre and video to portray the experiences and memories of the Partition era.

Minister Mishra said that the programme, presented through music, theatre and video, was an effort to bring the human stories of that period to the present generation and highlight the pain and struggles that lay behind the tragedy of Partition.

He said that the "horrors of Partition" were suppressed and attempts were made for years to make people forget them.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has ensured that the pain, sacrifices and lessons of 1947 are never forgotten.

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is not only an occasion to pay tribute to the millions who suffered, but also an opportunity to resolve to learn from history and pass those lessons on to future generations, he added.

Minister Mishra said that when a society forgets its history, sacrifices and the lessons learnt from them, its future stands on a weak foundation.

"With the resolve of 'Viksit Bharat 2047', we must reiterate our commitment that the mindset that seeks to weaken India's unity, integrity and social harmony will never be allowed to flourish in the country again," he added.

During the programme, Sonam Kalra and her team presented a special musical rendition titled 'Stories of Separation', artistically portraying stories of separation, struggle and memories associated with the Partition of 1947.

Minister Mishra expressed his gratitude to the Union Ministry of Culture and the artists for organising the programme.
