New Delhi, Sep 4 (AHN) The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Friday marched towards the Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi, seeking the registration of an FIR under stringent sections and arrest of a man, who in a viral video claimed to have assaulted the father of a student protester during the demonstration at Jantar Mantar. The man boasts in the video that he was let off by the Delhi Police as he has "political connections."
Accusing the police of allegedly shielding criminals, the CJP called it a "shameful day" for the country and democracy.
Speaking to reporters on way to the police station, CJP co-convener Saurav Das said: "Nishu, who is a minor, had participated in our protest (at Jantar Mantar) from the beginning itself. Her father, Sanjay ji, also used to accompany her. During our peaceful sit-in protest, some members of a criminal gang entered and undertook violence. They broke Sanjay ji's head using a metal bracelet."
He said that when an initial FIR was registered against the accused, the outfit urged the police to invoke charges like attempt to murder and Sections of SC/ST Act, "because they belong to a Dalit family and there is a caste angle to this".
"But the police didn't do anything like that. When we pressurised the police, they told us to get an order from the court. Since then, there hasn't been much progress in this case. Now, a podcast interview video has gone viral where this goon openly claimed that he committed an attempt to murder, yet no charges were invoked against him, that he wasn't kept in the police station, and he was freely roaming around. In that same interview, he targeted Nishu and threatened her, saying, 'We will see her too'," Saurav Das claimed.
He further said: "So today, we are going to the Parliament Street police station where we will speak to senior police officials and ask them why criminals like him are wandering out in the open in Delhi...Police have themselves said that 2,800 hardened criminals were present during the protest. Then why no action was taken against them?"
He said that Nishu and her father will accompany them to the police station, where they will demand the identification and arrest of such "goons" under stringent Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
"All the proof is available, reels where Nishu is being mocked, her father is being threatened, have all been provided...but police are sheltering the accused, which is not acceptable to us," he stated.
He added: "Today we have just come to speak to the police, we will see what to do next."
CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka said: "Now, the condition in the country's capital has become such that goons are openly admitting that they broke open Sanjay ji's head. It was a complete attempt to kill him. He himself is admitting that an attempt to murder case should be made against him, but the Delhi Police, under the protection of a politician, did not take any action against that person."
The accused allegedly claimed in the viral video that he escaped jail after a call from a politician.
"Today is a shameful day for the country and democracy where goons are openly claiming that they have attempted to kill someone and still no action is being taken against them because they are politically connected," Ranka told reporters.
The CJP leader echoed that the goons who have "self identified themselves", should be immediately arrested.
