New Delhi, June 23 (AHN) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Nabin on Tuesday led party leaders in paying rich glowing tributes to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his martyrdom day.
A workers' conference was organised by the Karol Bagh District BJP and a seminar on the life and contributions of Mookerjee was also held earlier in the day.
Addressing the seminar, Nabin highlighted Mookerjee's life journey, recalling his decision to resign from the Union Cabinet in the national interest and establish the Jana Sangh.
The BJP President hailed the Jan Sangh founder's movement to ensure that Kashmir remained an integral part of India, and gave his supreme sacrifice for the nation.
Along with Nitin Nabin, Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra and BJP Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj also addressed the seminar.
The seminar was conducted by District BJP President Virendra Babbar in the presence of State BJP General Secretary Vishnu Mittal, Vice President Vinay Rawat, MLA Harish Khurana, Umang Bajaj and former MLA Anil Bajpai.
Earlier on Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta paid tributes to Mookerjee on his 73rd martyrdom anniversary.
She said that Mookerjee gave the slogan of 'One Nation, One Constitution' and Prime Minister Narendra Modi fulfilled his dream by abrogating Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a martyrdom day programme at Mookerjee's memorial site near the Delhi Gate, Chief Minister Gupta added that achieving Assembly poll victory in West Bengal for the first time after Independence was a major tribute to Mookerjee.
She said that today is a day to remember the noble soul who sowed the seeds of the Jana Sangh, and today that seed, in the form of the BJP, is providing shade to the entire country.
She added: "Syama Prasad Mookerjee's life is an inspiration for all of us. Today, we work with the spirit of "Nation First", but it was Dr. Mookerjee who inspired this thought. He was a person who could leave the position of a Minister for the interest of the nation, and his principles continue to inspire us."
"We should pledge to take forward his (Syama Prasad Mookerjee's) message and work in the interest of the country," Chief Minister Gupta said.
