Assam flood: PM Modi dials Himanta Sarma, assures full support

Guwahati, July 25 (AHN) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over the prevailing flood situation in the state and assured all possible assistance from the Centre for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.

Sharing details of the conversation in a post on X, Chief Minister Sarma said the Prime Minister called him to take stock of the flood situation, the scale of damage caused by the deluge, the progress of relief operations and the challenges being faced by the state administration.

According to the Chief Minister, he briefed the Prime Minister on the steps being taken by the Assam government to provide relief to affected people and ensure assistance reaches every flood-hit family.

Sarma said Prime Minister Modi expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and extensive damage to property caused by the floods and reiterated that the Centre stands firmly with the people of Assam during the crisis.

"The Hon'ble Prime Minister assured that the Government of India is treating this calamity with the highest priority and will extend every possible support for relief, rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts," the Chief Minister said in his post.

He also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Assam for his continued support and reassurance during the ongoing flood emergency.

"The people of Assam are deeply grateful to Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for his steadfast support during this difficult time," Sarma added.

Assam has been witnessing recurrent waves of flooding triggered by incessant rainfall across the state as well as in neighbouring regions, affecting several districts and displacing thousands of people.

According to the state disaster management authority, more than 11 lakh people were affected due to the deluge and the rescue operations are underway in different places of the flood-affected districts.

State agencies, district administrations, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Army and other rescue teams have been engaged in evacuation, rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.

The state government has been operating relief camps, distributing essential supplies and restoring damaged infrastructure, while continuously monitoring the evolving flood situation in coordination with Central agencies.
