Elon Musk-owned microblogging platform X faced a significant global outage on Friday evening, leaving thousands of users across multiple countries, including India, unable to access the service or post updates. The disruption also affected Grok, the platform’s integrated artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, which users rely on for interactive responses.

According to outage monitoring website Downdetector, reports of service issues began climbing around 8:40 pm IST. In India, users in major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru reported that they could not refresh their feeds or publish posts, as noted by PTI. On the web version of X, users encountered the message: “Something went wrong, but don’t fret — it’s not your fault.” The mobile app showed an error reading: “Cannot retrieve posts at this time. Please try again later.” Grok was also reported to be unresponsive or failing to load during the outage.

The disruption was not limited to India. By 9 pm IST, Downdetector recorded over 41,000 problem reports from the United States, around 8,000 from the United Kingdom, and more than 2,400 from India, according to a Reuters report. This incident follows a similar outage earlier this week, which saw over 28,300 reports in the US and more than 8,000 in the UK. As of now, X has not released an official statement explaining the cause of the disruption. The recurring issues have raised concerns among users about the reliability of the platform, especially given its growing integration of AI features like Grok.
