The United States military has confirmed that it carried out a large-scale strike that destroyed the headquarters of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the IRGC has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,000 Americans over the past 47 years.

In its official statement, CENTCOM characterized the operation as an effort to cut off “the head of the snake,” emphasizing the scale and precision of the attack. The command further asserted that the United States maintains the most powerful military force in the world and declared that, as a result of the strike, the IRGC no longer has a functioning headquarters.

At the same time, Israel reported conducting extensive airstrikes on multiple Iranian military facilities. These reportedly included IRGC command posts, intelligence headquarters, IRGC Air Force command centres, and internal security offices. Israeli officials stated that the coordinated assaults severely weakened Iran's command-and-control systems and led to the elimination of personnel operating in key strategic locations. The joint US-Israeli military actions continued into Sunday, following reports that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had been killed a day earlier. Explosions were heard across Tehran on Sunday night, with Israeli authorities claiming their strikes targeted central areas of the capital.

Iran launched missiles and drones toward Israel, US military installations in the Gulf region, as well as targets in the Saudi capital and Dubai. The escalating exchanges marked a dramatic intensification of hostilities across the region. Iran appointed 66-year-old cleric Alireza Arafi to a three-member leadership council tasked with governing the country temporarily until a new supreme leader is formally selected.
