In an extraordinary social media post, Uganda's Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has proposed a $1 billion payment plus marriage to one of the "most beautiful women" in exchange for Turkish drones, escalating talks on military cooperation between the two nations.

The offer, shared on X on Saturday, directly addressed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan: "Mr. President, give us 12 of those brand new Turkish drones and take $1 billion and the most beautiful woman as wife." The post, viewed over 500,000 times within hours, blends humor with a clear push for advanced Bayraktar TB2 drones, which Uganda seeks to enhance its aerial capabilities amid regional security challenges.

Uganda has deepened ties with Turkey in recent years, acquiring Turkish-made helicopters and training programs. The East African nation faces ongoing threats, including cross-border operations against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Turkish drones have gained prominence globally, credited with key roles in conflicts from Ukraine to Libya.

General Kainerugaba, son of President Yoweri Museveni and a prominent figure in Uganda's military, frequently uses X—where he has 1.4 million followers—to comment on geopolitics. Neither the Turkish presidency nor Uganda's defence ministry has officially responded as of Monday.

This comes as Turkey expands its arms exports in Africa, with deals worth billions. Analysts see the general's unconventional pitch as a mix of cultural negotiation style and digital diplomacy, though it has sparked debate over its tone. Uganda's government has not commented further, but sources indicate ongoing discussions for drone acquisitions could advance soon.
