Two explosion-like incidents reported within a span of two hours near defence-linked areas in Punjab have put security agencies on high alert, officials said on Tuesday. The first incident took place in Jalandhar, close to a Border Security Force (BSF) facility. According to preliminary reports, a scooter parked in the area caught fire, triggering a loud blast that damaged nearby property and caused panic among residents. No injuries have been reported so far.

Nearly two hours later, a second explosion occurred near the Army’s Khasa cantonment area in Amritsar. Officials suspect that an unidentified object may have been hurled toward the outer boundary wall, leading to the blast. The exact cause is yet to be confirmed. Police teams, bomb disposal units, and forensic experts were rushed to both locations. The areas have been sealed off, and searches are underway to gather evidence. Authorities are also scanning CCTV footage and questioning locals to establish the sequence of events.

Senior officials said that while the nature of the explosions is still being investigated, there is no confirmation yet on whether the two incidents are linked. However, given their proximity to sensitive defence establishments, security agencies are treating the matter with utmost seriousness. Following the incidents, security has been tightened across key installations in Punjab. Additional checkpoints, increased patrolling, and heightened surveillance have been put in place, especially in border districts.

The back-to-back blasts have also triggered political reactions, with opposition leaders raising concerns over the state’s law-and-order situation and demanding a thorough probe. Officials have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, as investigations continue to determine the cause and possible intent behind the incidents.
