Taapsee Pannu's 'Gandhari' Creators Dismiss Plagiarism Claims

The makers of Taapsee Pannu-starrer ‘Gandhari’ have strongly denied allegations that the upcoming film has copied another writer’s concept or work. The controversy surfaced after a Mumbai-based writer reportedly alleged that certain elements of his work had been used in the film. Kathha Pictures, which is backing the project, rejected the claims and maintained that Gandhari is an original story written and produced by Kanika Dhillon.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the production house said it was aware of allegations circulating across social media and some publications claiming that the film had borrowed another person’s concept and title. The makers described these claims as false and said they “unequivocally” denied them.

According to the statement, the story and screenplay of Gandhari are Dhillon’s own work and were developed by Kathha Pictures. The production house also appealed to media organisations, digital platforms and members of the public to avoid presenting the allegations as established facts, describing them as unverified.

The film is set in the fictional town of Joypurra and centres on Bani, a mother determined to find her daughter while navigating a dangerous and uncertain world. The story explores themes of motherhood, sacrifice, courage, resilience and the lengths a parent can go to protect their child. Apart from Taapsee Pannu, the film features Ishwak Singh, Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht and Jatin Sarna in key roles. ‘Gandhari’ will premiere exclusively on Netflix on September 3.
