Republic Day 2025: 942 Police Officers Honored with Gallantry and Service Medals

A total of 942 personnel from police, fire, and civil defense departments have received various gallantry and service medals ahead of Republic Day, as announced by the government on Saturday.
Among these, 95 are gallantry medals. The awardees come from a range of services, including police, fire, home guards, civil defense, and correctional services.
Notably, 28 gallantry awards were given to personnel working in areas affected by Left Wing Extremism, 28 in Jammu and Kashmir, three in the northeast, and 36 in other regions, all recognized for their brave actions.
Additionally, 101 President's Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM) were awarded, with 85 going to police officers, five to fire services, seven to civil defense and home guards, and four to correctional services.
Of the 746 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM), 634 were given to police personnel, 37 to fire service, 39 to civil defense and home guards, and 36 to correctional services.
The Medal for Gallantry (GM) is awarded for exceptional acts of bravery, either in saving lives, protecting property, preventing crimes, or arresting criminals, with the risks considered in relation to the officer's duties. The President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) honors a distinguished service record, while the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) recognizes valuable contributions marked by dedication and resourcefulness.
