The latest increase in petrol and diesel prices on Monday triggered widespread frustration among citizens across India, with many saying the rising fuel costs are making everyday life increasingly difficult. People from several cities urged the central government to provide relief to middle-class and lower-income families by reducing taxes, increasing salaries, or revising transport fares. This marks the fourth fuel price hike in less than two weeks, driven by fluctuations in global crude oil prices and escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The repeated increases have raised concerns about a further rise in inflation, especially in transportation and essential goods.

In Delhi, residents expressed concern over how fuel inflation is affecting household budgets. Sunil Kumar said ordinary citizens are bearing the burden while salaries remain stagnant. He pointed out that higher fuel prices eventually push up the cost of vegetables, groceries, and other daily necessities, making it harder for families to manage expenses. Another resident, Anil Kumar, highlighted the challenges faced by taxi drivers. According to him, taxi fares have not increased despite the constant rise in petrol prices, leaving drivers struggling to cover operating costs. He appealed to the government either to lower fuel taxes or allow fare revisions to reduce pressure on transport workers.

Similar reactions were reported in Bengaluru, where several locals criticized the continuous increase in fuel prices. Abdullah, a resident, said people feel helpless as the cost of living keeps rising. Ram Syed Sardar questioned the government over its promises of economic relief, saying inflation has severely affected common citizens.

Taxi driver Vijay explained that drivers are finding it difficult to sustain their livelihood because fuel prices are increasing almost daily while customer fares remain unchanged. He warned that if tourists and passengers reduce travel due to higher rates, drivers will face even bigger financial challenges. However, he also acknowledged that the global conflict situation has contributed to rising fuel prices worldwide.

Another Bengaluru resident, Nasir, said the government should focus more on addressing public concerns instead of political activities. He noted that fuel prices had risen sharply within a short period and argued that many other countries are handling the global crisis more effectively. In Assam, Arnav Sharma pointed out that diesel price hikes would directly affect public transportation costs, increasing the burden on commuters. He stressed that even though people are struggling, they still have no option but to continue travelling for work and daily activities.

Residents in Ahmedabad also voiced disappointment. Sultan Singh urged authorities to bring fuel prices under control, saying that ordinary citizens cannot manage indefinitely under such financial pressure. Another local blamed the ongoing tensions in West Asia for the current situation but warned that poorer families and drivers from lower-income groups would suffer the most if inflation continues to rise.

Fuel prices crossed significant levels in several metro cities. In Delhi, petrol climbed above Rs 100 per litre, reaching Rs 102.12, while diesel rose to Rs 95.20 per litre. Similar increases were recorded in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai, adding further pressure on consumers and transport businesses. In Kolkata, petrol reached Rs 113.51 per litre and diesel touched Rs 99.82. Mumbai saw petrol prices rise to Rs 111.21 and diesel to Rs 97.83. In Chennai, petrol increased to Rs 107.77, while diesel stood at Rs 99.55 per litre. Experts believe the continued rise in petrol, diesel, and CNG prices could push logistics and transportation expenses even higher. This may eventually lead to increased retail prices for goods and services, putting additional strain on household budgets and small businesses across the country.
