Quetta: Protests have intensified in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province after the alleged enforced disappearance of a student, Khadija Baloch, with demonstrators continuing a sit-in for the sixth consecutive day outside the Bolan Medical Complex.

Students, activists, and civil society members have gathered in large numbers demanding her immediate and safe recovery. Protesters allege that Khadija was taken from her hostel and moved to an undisclosed location without any official explanation, triggering outrage across the region.

The demonstration, led by Baloch student groups and rights organisations, has become a focal point of anger against what they describe as a pattern of enforced disappearances in the province. Protesters have called the incident part of a broader systemic issue, claiming that Baloch students are increasingly being targeted.

Security forces have maintained a heavy presence around the protest site, raising fears among demonstrators of a possible crackdown. Despite this, participants have continued their sit-in, vowing not to disperse until Khadija is recovered and accountability is ensured.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the long-standing issue of enforced disappearances in Pakistan, particularly in Balochistan, where human rights groups allege thousands have gone missing over the years. Families of the disappeared have repeatedly staged protests, demanding information about their loved ones and legal action against those responsible.

The ongoing protest underscores deepening public frustration and mistrust, as activists warn that such incidents continue to erode confidence in state institutions and highlight the fragile human rights situation in the region.
