Prime Minister Narendra Modi holds a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Canadian Prime Minister Mark J Carney on Monday at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, where the two leaders are scheduled to hold delegation-level discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. The meeting marks an important step in advancing cooperation between India and Canada across key strategic and economic sectors.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called on Prime Minister Carney and expressed appreciation for his commitment to building a forward-looking partnership between the two nations. In a post on X, Jaishankar said he was delighted to meet the Canadian leader during his visit to the capital and welcomed the opportunity to deepen cooperation. On Sunday evening, Jaishankar also met Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand to discuss bilateral matters. Prime Minister Carney arrived in the national capital on Sunday evening after completing engagements in Mumbai, marking the second leg of his official visit to India from 27 February to 2 March. This is his first official trip to the country since assuming office.
The high-level talks at Hyderabad House will include a review of progress under the India–Canada Strategic Partnership. According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, discussions will focus on trade and investment, energy cooperation, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research and innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. The leaders will also exchange views on regional and global developments.
Building on their earlier meetings in Kananaskis and Johannesburg last year, both Prime Ministers are expected to assess ongoing collaboration and outline future priorities. In addition to formal talks, they will participate in the India–Canada CEOs Forum. The visit comes at a crucial juncture as both countries seek to stabilise and revitalise bilateral relations through constructive engagement.
