Piyush Goyal arrived in Chennai on Monday to work out seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Assembly elections, expressing strong confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will decisively win the polls. During his visit, he met Nainar Nagenthran and said the alliance is well-positioned to deliver effective governance in both Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Speaking to the media, Goyal stated that the NDA is united and optimistic about forming a government that benefits the people of both regions.

On seat-sharing discussions, he emphasized cooperation among alliance partners, noting that decisions would be made collectively like a “family.” He highlighted key leaders such as Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Anbumani Ramadoss, T. T. V. Dhinakaran, and L. Murugan as part of this united front. Regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu, Goyal said the schedule would be finalized after discussions with alliance partners once the campaign begins.

He further stated that people in Tamil Nadu are seeking development-oriented governance, particularly for farmers, fishermen, MSMEs, and youth employment, while also stressing opportunities in startups, healthcare, and education. He expressed confidence that the NDA, under Modi’s leadership, can fulfill these expectations and bring overall development to the state.

Tamil Nadu will hold Assembly elections in a single phase on April 23, with counting set for May 4. The current Assembly’s term ends on May 10. The main contest is expected between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance and the NDA, led by the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) along with BJP and PMK.
